Hindu Extremism And Christian Crowd Revolt In India

Submitted by Alex Birch on Thu, 01/03/2008 - 16:56.

It was days before Christmas Eve that a group of Hindu extremists burned and ransacked eight rural churches in eastern India, upsetting the 2,5% of the population in the country that identifies itself with the Christian faith. This act is just one in a historical line of events where Christians in India have been attacked by Hindus who want to stop the missionaries to convert people over to Christianity. Let's take a brief look at why this is.

Christian psychology is very simple: life on earth includes pain, horror, suffering and death. Because we cannot change these aspects of reality, we naturally have to look for comfort elsewhere. That comfort is in Christian faith called "Heaven," an imaginary place where competition, destruction, death and pain don't exist. And what better way of justifying all of this, than an absolute authority that we cannot perceive but is still "there," beyond earthly logic? Convenient, isn't it?

Hindu religion takes a more realistic approach to life. Existence on earth is filled with horror but since it's all just a part of a cosmic cycle - life->death->new life - it makes more sense to accept it and move on. When we're no longer held back by fear of pain and death, we can spend our time enjoying life to its fullest. It's a positive, constructive spiritual faith that regards personal fears as something we must overcome. The individual doesn't matter, life as a cycle does.

Hinduism

When we fully comprehend this major difference between the two religions, we also begin to understand why many Hindus fear the spread of Christianity in India. It's a religion that speaks to the lower castes of a community by promising an eternal life in equality, peace and justice. By Christian logic, we're all equal before God and therefore shouldn't live under "oppression." The crowd, naturally seeking the position of the higher castes, will eventually revolt and dissolve the original hierarchy that once held society together.

Without this hierarchy - a sacred part of Hindu culture and tradition, recognizing that people aren't inherently "equal" and therefore should have different functions in society - social chaos and a slow break down of culture are looming in the background. This is a pattern we can see throughout the history of Christianity, especially in Europe. Christianity comes, slaves revolt against aristocracy, replaces leadership with crowd rule and noble culture with dumbed down entertainment for fools, calls it "freedom" and "justice." Then the whole thing suddenly collapses and Christians blame it on "moral sin" or "God's will." Time to wreck another civilization.

Hindu extremists today know this to be true and that is why they attack the Christians in India. They're already seeing the West falling part thanks to the same virus: underconfidence. When this neurotic psychology becomes a cult for people who only feel resentment, everything that harms or upsets the individual is a "moral threat" and will be demonized by the crowd. At this point it doesn't matter if it's under the flag of God, Democracy, Freedom or World Peace.

Lower castes will always wish to live in equality and that is precisely why they are lower castes: they can't think outside of their own existence. Hierarchies are natural in every community and exist to let smart people rule, common people work and stupid people do what they're told under oppression. It's discriminating but reality doesn't offer us justice, equality or world peace - all such attempts have ironically led to even greater unjustices and global conflicts. Hindu extremists recognize this and will continue to fight for the real truth among Christian fairy tales and TV priests. Let's hope they win.
