Biodiversity Loss Could Hurt Medical Research

Overpopulation of morons

The world risks losing new medical treatments for osteoporosis, cancer and other human ailments if it does not act quickly to conserve the planet's biodiversity, a senior United Nations environmental official said Wednesday.

Earth's organisms offer a variety of naturally made chemical compounds with which scientists could develop new medicines, but are under threat of extinction, said Achim Steiner, executive director of the U.N. Environment Program.

New medicines? We're nearing 7 billion people on this planet and we're worried about saving human lives? Of course we need to protect and preserve the biodiversity in the world, but not because we need cures for viruses and diseases; how could we possibly think of ourselves at this point? No, I say we cut foreign aid and reduce the social welfare to exclude parasites, chronic criminals and other idiots who cause society problems. We need to be fewer people of better quality.
