Despite predictions to the contrary, the pro-European party of President Boris Tadic won the parliamentary election in Serbia, according to preliminary estimates. However, Tadic still lacks a clear majority to form a government. His opponent, Tomislav Nikolic, wants nationalist parties to join forces to govern.

Tadic declared victory for his Democratic Party (DS) on Sunday evening. "Serbs have undoubtedly confirmed a clear European path. This is a great victory," he said. At the same time, he warned: "The government we are building will not recognize Kosovo."

Ultranationalist Tomislav Nikolic of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS), which favors closer ties to Moscow, warned Tadic that the pro-Europe camp hadn't won yet. He said his party also had very clear possibilities for creating a coalition that would not include the Democratic Party.

This article is pure rhetoric; nationalists are also pro-European but they don't support a bureaucratic federation ruled by a small elite in Brussel. By addressing EU-supporters as "Pro-European," which sounds positive, and nationalists as "ultranationalists," which sounds negative, we're supposed to cheer the direction of Serbia - and, in extension, Kosovo. The "European future" German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier talks about is rather an entrance into "oligarchy future," led by the people who currently support the Kosovo independence. Hamburger restaurants, bureaucratic institutions, empire-controlled currency and cosmopolitan culture will enrich yet another nation.

An established brand in its own right, Sex and the City is cosmopolitan - its cocktail of choice as well as the lifestyle celebrated in the newspaper column turned best-selling book turned blockbuster television series turned A-list film.

I think the comment Smurthwaite makes speaks for itself. She believes that binge drinking, a confused emotional life, sex toys, and office work constitute "freedom." She might be right that these are freedoms, but the question is if any woman really needs them to feel happy and be successful in life? Smurthwaite, like most Smurfs in our world, don't mention the societal impacts of this lifestyle, nor does she include things like family, children, emotional life, culture, or any values above making money and satisfying physical pleasures. Money is important and it's nothing wrong with having sexual desires - but should people, not just women, be entirely motivated and led only by printed paper and shallow wants?

What's interesting about soft-patriotic media like this is that it highlights the tension between the Eastern and Western powers. Bush is shown calling Putin, but no one gives a dime. It's a deliberate way of saying: "We've got the oil you need. We know you want to provoke us into attacking Europe, so that you can justify an attack against us, just like you did with Iraq." During the press conference at the 32nd G8 summit, Putin told Bush: "We certainly would not want to have the same kind of democracy as they have in Iraq, I will tell you quite honestly." Putin is highly aware of the Anglo-American globalist forces that conspire against him, as well as other obvious targets like Iran.

So, while this is a silly video, it has serious underpinnings.

They don't seek to impose their lifestyle on others, they simply wish to follow the traditions and values of their ancient forefathers, and live in harmony with nature. This is a future possible for all of those who are tired of our current society and seek to restore a traditional order among intelligent, creative and positive-spirited people.

Prince Philip emerges in a television interview this week as the model royal “eco-warrior” who believes overpopulation has contributed to the pressures on the world and that anyone who believes in God should go green.

“Food prices are going up,” he tells his interviewer, Sir Trevor McDonald. “Everyone thinks it’s to do with not enough food, but it’s really that demand is too great – too many people. Basically, it’s a little embarrassing for everybody. No one quite knows how to handle it. Nobody wants their family life to be interfered with by the government.”

“You’ve got to be fairly hard-hearted about it. Conservation is not a romantic business. It’s a very practical business, trying to ensure as many different species of wildlife can exist, and which means in some cases controlling some so the others can have a better chance.”

Prince Philip is the next official person to speak out about the overpopulation problem. His analysis of why the food prices are going up is spot on; we're simply too many people that consume a limited amount of resources, including food and fresh water. Prince Philip knows this and that is why he has adopted a pragmatic stance on the topic. We need to stop whining about green products and green technology in the third world. We have a multitude of species to preserve and the only way to do that is to stop the destruction of natural habitat, by limiting the human expansion.

But in the new Rough Guide to England, the English are also hailed as a nation of animal-loving, tea-drinking charity donors who love nothing better than forming an orderly queue.

Gone, it seems, is the image of a genteel country awash with Englishmen politely tipping their bowler hats, groping through the London fog and being kinder to pets than kids.

I'm not sure if this is entirely accurate or not, but one thing is certain: if this was about a non-European people, the man who wrote this guide would be in jail a long time ago.

Bees in the German state of Baden-Württemburg are dying by the hundreds of thousands. In some places more than half of hives have perished. Government officials say the causes are unclear -- but beekeepers are blaming new pesticides.

Meanwhile, Germany's beekeepers were pointing fingers at one of Germany's largest companies, blaming a popular, recently-introduced pesticide called clothianidin for the recent die-off. Produced by Monheim-based Bayer CropScience, a subsidiary of German chemical giant Bayer AG, clothianidin is sold in Europe under the trade name Poncho. It's designed to attack the nervous systems of insects "like nerve gas," says Hederer. The chemical was used last year to fight an outbreak of corn rootworm, and its success against the pest led to a much wider application this spring up and down the Rhine.

We're so short sighted that we're neglecting the context of our decisions. Confronted with distributing food rations to hungry orphans, people would rather be fair than efficient, even if it means letting some of the food go to waste, a US study shows.

But the tests demonstrated that most people preferred equity in distributing food -- that all the hungry mouths got fed equally -- rather than an efficiency that perhaps meant that one orphan got almost nothing but also that no food went to waste.

Hsu said in a summary of the study that the research aimed at examining the neurological side of moral decision-making, and also what role was played by emotion.

There's something fishy about this study. Maybe these people have been brainwashed by society to try appear "fair" rather than being pragmatic and effective? I think a lot of modern people like concepts such as justice, equality and fairness, because it makes them look important and special. They get to help others, like Jesus - and it feels good to be Jesus! People living in a healthier age would probably choose to be effective instead. They lived under different conditions and knew you couldn't moralize over individual lives when food and water shortages threatened your everyday existence. As seeds get better, much of the world's soil is getting worse and people are going hungry. Scientists say if they can get the world out of the economically triggered global food crisis, better dirt will be at the root of the solution.

Soils around the world are deteriorating with about one-fifth of the world's cropland considered degraded in some manner. The poor quality has cut production by about one-sixth, according to a World Resources Institute study. Some scientists consider it a slow-motion disaster.

Again, people attack the symptom without understanding the root cause. Of course the farm conditions, in this case the quality of the soil, will deteriorate - too many people trying to farm too much out of limited resources = FAIL.
