JOKELA, FI (N3) - After the Jokela High School massacre in Finland, where the 18-year-old student Pekka-Eric Auvinen killed eight and wounded ten people, radical ecophilosopher Pentti Linkola has gone out in public media to support Auvinen's motives and ideas. Linkola comments to the Finnish newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet:
- The massacre was too small. In the long run it doesn't help shooting some fellow students. What is needed is a larger movement to reduce the population.
The statement has created wild debates in media around Auvinen's anti-humanistic views and the growing radicalism in how the West should deal with its environmental problems. While political celebrities such as Al Gore has suggested that the industrial countries must reduce the carbon oxide emissions and sell more "green" products to save our planet, people like Pentti Linkola believe the current climate changes are only a symptom of the real problem: overpopulation.
Linkola, during an attempt from Swedish newspaper Expressen to interview him, answers:
- I don't think anyone will wake up to the real question of fact, despite all warnings about the climat change.
Pentti Linkola calls himself an ecofascist and believes Western democracies have overindustrialized their natural land due to individualism and obsession with consumer products. He advocates mass genocide, war, famine and a strong dictatorship to keep the population under control.

In our view, what we must do is focus on reality as method and a bright, positive future as an ideal, once we have lost the baggage of our fear that makes us see only the individual and thus obscure reality. Yes, like Peter Singer before him, Linkola knows how to get people's attention and, though at first his ideas may seem extreme--once analyzed--he does prove to have a substantial perspective.

Yes I was expecting Pentii Linkola to say something regarding the shooting. Characteristically he says that 'it was too small' and indeed he is right.
No one will face the real questiion of overpopulation as THE question. I have written many letters to British Members of the European Parliament regarding climate change mass waste production and land fill, the targets for the reduction of the last of which in the Uk are not meeting EU guidelines; to which I suggested that The EU do something about ceaseing immigration and reducing births to combat enviromental destruction and so reducing land fill.
Linkola is respected in his own country the rest of the world ought to listen to him.
