Revolution March Blacked Out By Corporate Media Interests

Submitted by Alex Birch on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 11:42.

Ron Paul Revolution

The Revolution March was a major event, well organized and well attended. The March itself took place down the length of Constitution Ave. in DC and ended on the Mall at the feet of the Capital Building. The line-up included renowned speakers such as authors Naomi Wolf and G. Edward Griffin, and "Iraqi Veterans Against the War" movement organizer Adam Kokesh, as well as freedom loving music performers such as the Jordan Page Band and veteran revolutionary rockers Pokerface. A sea of patriots, gathered together at a major political rally to support the constitution, and it got absolutely no media coverage whatsoever. Not even local channels. This is indicative of the game that news media has played in the stonewalling of Congressman Ron Paul, the keynote speaker at the Revolution March. Dr. Paul is a candidate who has been campaigning against the grain of corporate American imperialism. He has set records for GOP campaign fundraising and has inspired a national movement of citizen patriots to defend the terminally wounded constitution. You remember that old parchment that says "We the People..." on it? Ron Paul is dangerous because he shines a spotlight on the processes and groups who seek to capitalize off the fall of America. Those same groups own the media across the board and have tried to silence his campaign at every turn. He is not touting nostalgic sentiments about how great change is (yet never providing a definition of what that will entail), nor does he claim an exacerbated plan to bomb Muslims off the face of the earth and plant an American flag over Mecca.

We need to be aware that we live in a country where the only individuals who are allowed to be viable candidates for president are those who fit into the picture that corporate interests want to see in the leading role for their own string-less Pinocchio act. People like Ron Paul who speak out against the real threats to our country, (namely Dick Cheney, Daddy Bush and all his Bushlets, and the old white men who control the Federal Reserve), are ridiculed or systematically left out of the punditry and political public conversation. Its funny how the same folks who are making billions profiteering off the Iraq invasion with Pentagon contracts are the ones who own the major news stations and publications putting out a pro-war, terror-threat message while silencing and discrediting the peacemakers and opposition. Actually, it's not funny at all.

This is the naked truth of modern democratic politics. If you don't fit into the media paradigm of the corporate overclass, you're an enemy and will be silenced by any means possible. Ron Paul may be the best, but certainly not the only example of what happens if your political policies clash with those of the current imperial-globalist empire, or as some call it, the new world order. It's not a conspiracy or a religious group; it's a collection of powerful and wealth people who simply wish to extend that wealth and power.

Most people would do the same if they came to power. It's ego interest. That's why we call for a new society that promotes true leaders to ruling position, regardless of social and economic class. Real kings are not kings because they have money (and want to exploit others to gain more), but because they have an honest and pragmatic character, and have the ability to organize and lead a group of people for the benefit of the community as a whole. Until we install leadership, false kings will continue to exploit us for their own self gain.

For a clear example of the

For a clear example of the bankruptcy of American democracy (at the very least), all one has to do is look at how political candidates are drowned out and silenced in the media.

Dr. Paul amassed enormous support both online and in the real world. He might not have had sheer numbers comparable to the most powerful and established candidates, but his supporters were definitely vocal and got him a lot of attention. Even for the latter parts of the race he was several strides ahead of some of the other candidates, some of whom were once front-runners. In fact, locally, the only yard signs I've seen for any Republican candidate have been for Ron Paul; I even saw one the other day, and McCain has been the candidate for months now.

The point I'm trying to make is this: Look at what they did to Ron Paul, and even Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich. Being the closest to Americans on the issues, even if many Americans didn't know it, they still received far less airtime, weren't allowed to participate in some of the debates, and were written off in the media as kooks who just wouldn't shut up. Their supporters were furious over all of these things, of course, but what could they do? Demand that they be treated fairly? Demand they receive more airtime? Demand their participation in every public event? It doesn't work that way, and that's just what it comes down to. The supporters threw everything they had behind the candidates and it didn't work. They demanded something else and didn't get it. The end result? Ones that don't quite make the cut getting the chance at the presidency and everyone telling me that if I don't vote I don't have the right to bitch. Even though it seems blatantly obvious that they don't have a choice in what goes on in Washington, they still cling to thinking We Are the Government.
