There are reasons to distrust the majority, given both the intelligence of big crowds and the nature of crowd rule. But I agree with Martin: being a misanthrope is pathetic.

Misanthropy resembles leftist sociology and modern feminism in that it outright denies the basic conditions for human existence. Ignoring the importance of genetic heritage is moronic. Hating all humans, or just people in general, makes just as little sense. We know that humanity as a whole is currently becoming more and more dumb. But we also know that the Bell curve is a fact. A condition.

Hating, ignoring or denying the existence of the most basic of human conditions isn't productive in any way. Sure, some conditions can be changed, and we don't necessarily have to accept something just because it exists naturally. But when did we last succeed with anything by suggesting the sun revolves around the Earth, all people are born equal, or that humanity is doomed to Armageddon? Not much.

Misanthropy, while some of the motivations might have factual backing, is a sentimental attitude adopted by people who share more fear than hate for humans, because if they really saw people as useless, they'd thrive socially to at least make some use of them instead of just complaining like alienated losers.
