Title: Learjet autopsy
Post by: prime on Nov 04, 2026, 09:39 AM
QuoteThe plane's left elevator – a piece on the tail used to move it up and down – was found in three pieces in a range of around 1.3 to 3.8 miles from the accident site, National Transportation Safety Board spokesperson Thomas B. Chapman told a press conference Tuesday.

"It tells us that at least some components, some pieces of the aircraft, important pieces of the aircraft separated before the impact," Chapman said.

QuoteThe doomed $2 million aicraft, en route to the Bahamas from Texas, was flying through a storm when it suddenly stalled, likely between 35,000 and 37,000 feet, and began plummeting before crashing and exploding in a fireball near a trailer park in Palm Beach County.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the tragedy, but aviation expert Justin Crabbe noted to The Post that the jet's pilots chose to fly through a dangerous storm — then attempted a risky escape that may have doomed them.

"They tried to ascend to get to clearer air, which may have been one of the contributing factors toward accelerating that stall," he told The Post.

When a plane's nose rises, it increases the "angle of attack" at which the wings meet the oncoming air. When the wings are covered in ice, they work harder to achieve lift, and the angle at which a plane stalls is lower than normal.
