I, for instance, would not prefer life over death, if that life is full of pain
and slavery. That means I value pleasure and freedom more than life.

If someone said, they prefer life, regardless of any level of pain, slavery and
torture, I would whole heartedly agree, that for that person, _life_ (TM and C)
is the prime value.

So by looking at what kind of life, what it is full of, we do reach the value
judgment, the "core" value.

So we are talking quality of life here, thriving not merely surviving?

Esotericism is a thought process, not mysticism. It allows for the learning to go anywhere, even the supernatural, but these are not its precepts. It describes a method for understanding reality.
